About Quillwick
A news website and weekly podcast reporting Bedford and the Halifax Regional Municipality, and the small newsroom behind it.
A news website and weekly podcast reporting Bedford and the Halifax Regional Municipality, and the small newsroom behind it.
Quillwick began as a Sunday newsletter written from a kitchen table in Bedford, before growing into a full news website and a weekly podcast covering the wider Halifax Regional Municipality. The site is operated as Quillwick by the registered company Be Responsive Media Inc., which owns the editorial operation, the advertising desk and every placement described on this site.
The focus has stayed narrow on purpose: local reporting, local voices and, alongside that, a small number of advertising formats that let nearby businesses sit next to the stories their neighbours are already reading. We are not a syndication feed or a wire-service repost — everything published carries a Quillwick byline or a Quillwick microphone.
Quillwick publishes a Sunday long-read newsletter and produces a weekly culture-and-city podcast episode. Alongside that editorial work sits a compact advertising offer: three sponsor formats, priced plainly and built to sit comfortably next to reporting rather than interrupt it.
Our newsroom is based at 213-35 Bloom Lane, Bedford, NS B4B 2E6, and our reporting and advertising coverage extends across the Halifax Regional Municipality — the Bedford Basin, Sackville, Dartmouth, the Halifax peninsula and Hammonds Plains are all part of the area our newsletter and podcast reach. We work in Atlantic Time, the only time zone in our publishing schedule.
A small, named set of roles carries the newsroom and the advertising desk between them; nobody outside these roles books a placement or edits a story.
Writes and edits the Sunday long-read, coordinates sponsor note copy and reviews every placement before it runs.
Conducts pre-interviews, records the weekly episode and edits sponsor conversation segments for release.
Cover the feature series that anchor partnership placements, drawing on sources across Bedford and HRM.
Handles booking, scheduling and the closing summaries sent after each placement runs.
These are not abstract values; they show up in small, repeated decisions about what we publish and how we credit a sponsor.
We keep sponsor content clearly labelled and separate from our news judgement, so both readers and advertisers know exactly what they are getting.
Every note and segment is reviewed against our style before it runs, and sponsors see the final version before release.
One contact coordinates a placement from first enquiry to the closing summary, so nothing gets lost between steps.
